Antigen testing for COVID-19
Extraordinary measures of the Ministry of Health for antigen testing
Antigen nation-wide testing of the population of the Czech Republic will take place between 18th December 2020 and 15th January 2021.
All persons who have public health insurance in the Czech Republic can participate.
You can be preventively tested by antigen tests at most once every 5 days.
If you decide to have a preventive test, take your insurance card or an appropriate alternative identification with you to the testing site.
The testing is not performed on persons who have undergone isolation due to COVID-19 at least to the extent of the valid extraordinary measure of the Ministry of Health regulating the isolation and quarantine and at the same time no more than 90 days have expired since the first RT-PCR test with a positive result, and it is not performed on people who were tested in the last 5 days by RT-PCR with a negative result.
In the event of a positive antigen test result, report this fact immediately to your registered health care provider by telephone after finding out the examination result.

The antigen test is used to detect patients who are at the peak of the infection and are at high risk of passing COVID-19 to others. During infection, there is a high concentration of viral proteins in the body that the test can detect. The advantages of the antigen test are fast results and low price. However, antigen tests are not as accurate as RT PCR tests.
The test is performed by a nasopharyngeal swab.
The result is known within 15 minutes.
This is determined by the states themselves, but usually a PCR test is required.
Yes, you will.
As a self-payer, you can be tested as often as you want, however, the insurance company covers the test no more than once every 5 days. In case of positivity for COVID-19 in the previous 90 days, the insurance company does not cover the test at all.
If you have symptoms and the test result is positive, you must go into isolation and another test is not performed. If you do not have symptoms and the test is positive, it is necessary to do a control PCR test and wait for its result.
